We brought the sizzle to the Sausage Awards!
The Dunninghams Great New Zealand Sausage Competition is the premier event for smallgoods producers across the country, with one delicious mission: to discover the best sausage in New Zealand. It’s a competition that consistently draws hundreds of entries, sparks media buzz and captures the hearts (and appetites) of the public. And it’s not just sausages anymore; this year’s event included a mince category, showcasing burger patties and meatballs.
This year the competition reached record-breaking heights, with an incredible 808 entries from 108 stores nationwide. With 16 categories, 13 sausage and 3 mince, it was a true showcase of the creativity, skill and dedication of New Zealand’s butchers and smallgoods makers.
We’re incredibly proud to share that our team walked away with an amazing haul of 10 medals, making us the most awarded producer of the competition! It’s a true testament to the passion and teamwork behind every recipe. Reuben’s sausages are all about flavour, innovation and quality, and now they’re officially recognised among the best in the country.

Judging was no easy task. Each product was carefully assessed by a panel of three judges: one technical expert (a butcher) and two aesthetic judges, drawn from chefs, food writers and experienced foodies. Every entry was judged anonymously, with scrutiny at every stage, from its raw state, through cooking and finally on presentation, texture, aroma and flavour. The result is a rigorous process that ensures only the very best are awarded.
