Okay, so that pun was intended but when you win the prize for New Zealand’s best ham surely you’re allowed to wallow (ahem) in the glory.
I’ve been making hams since I started out as a butcher straight after school. And while the recipe has changed a little to suit the modern palette, I find the trick is to keep it consistent. It seems to work – Aussie Butcher New Lynn hams are a firm favourite all-year round, and are the perfect way to feed – and impress - a crowd.
But it’s not just about the ham.
2017 was a great year for our team at Aussie Butcher New Lynn. Along with the ham prize, I won the Alto Butcher of the Year Award. For the third year running, we took home a silver medal for our streaky bacon.
We’ve been entering the Devro Great New Zealand Sausage competition since 2010, and every year we’ve picked up a medal or two. In 2017, we picked up three again.
2018 has treated us pretty well so far too, with silver and bronze awards for a variety of our bacon products in the Ham and Bacon Awards.

Our Reuben’s sausages are some of our most popular products. They’re handmade in store and come in a variety of flavours, from gourmet pork with japaleno and smoky cheese, to chicken, lemon, ginger and coriander, to gourmet beef, mushroom, onion and parmesan – along with traditional, pork, beef and chicken varieties.
